Part 1 : The Beginning
In the beginning there was one plane of existance, the astral plane (later called the godly plane). Residence of the known universe and container of all known powers. It is from here that life, balance, and control originates. Zel`nar, Tri`osta, Nil'far: one hateful and fierce, one peaceful and just, and one in the center, the balancing point for existance. Through the ages their conflicts split the astral plane, and thus the earthly plane was born. The earthly plane was found to be totally foreign to the three. They had known only power and the spirit. Here in this new plane there is substance, form, light, and dark. Tri`osta was the first to see this new plane, and dared to enter it. His form, however could not enter such a foreign place. Zel`nar, always seeking a way to outdo his brother, sought to enter this plane, but could not pass his form into this new place either.
Over time the gods found that they could manipulate this plane with their power, even if they could not physically enter it. Thus a new contest began... a contest for control of this new place they had created. Tri`osta made the first move, drawing on substantial powers, and created a bright swirling ball of light, a source of life for this new existance. After this, he created a planet upon which to spread his influence. He created plant life, small animals, oceans, the sun and stars. Zel`nar insisted on getting his hand into this new creation and flipped the flat planet over, causing it to turn from the sun, casting the world into darkness. The trees withered, and the oceans swelled with the shift in gravity. Seeing the power struggle here, Gil`nea made the world into a sphere and set it into a slow and steady rotation. This allowed the planet to have equal amounts of light and darkness across its entire surface.
Once the form of the planet was made, Tri`osta had a desire to create more life upon this planet. He wanted to create something that would honor his existance, and survive on the planet He had created. The first attempt at life was a large beast. The beast had wings with which to fly through the air, and hard flesh to protect it from rocks, trees, etc. Thus the first inhabitants of Xar`raj, the Silver Dragons, came into being. Furious with the idea that his Brother was creating life on "His" world, Zel`nar created a beast similar to the Silver Dragon. This new beast breathed fire, and was obsessed with an uncontrollable desire for chaos and destruction. Thus, the rage-filled Red Dragons came into being.
The two breeds of dragon fought, and they fought with such fury that the planet surface was burned, cratered, and rendered nearly inhospitable to any life. They used the powers of the gods, great magics, in an effort to destroy each other. Even in the face of total annihilation the two sides would not back down. Seeing this transpire, Tri`osta realized that creatures of lesser power needed to be created. Creatures that could not be so destructive. Tri`osta created the Humans, Elves, Thepa, and kanus. All similar in form, but all different in nature. The creatures were smaller than dragons and restricted to traveling on the ground. Again, Zel`nar acted against his brother and twisted Tri`osta's new creations into horrible demons, the Orcs, Goblins, Ogres, Hobgoblins. The opposite races fought many bloody wars, using the land to create what weapons they could. Though their wars were fierce, they did not lay ruin to the entire planet as the Dragons. In time the races realized they could not fight forever and withdrew to separate areas of the world.
Through the centuries these new races spread all across the land, learning to use it to sustain their lives in many ways. Though much weaker than the Dragons, these small creatures had the advantage of overwhelming numbers. They managed to drive the enemy dragons back and settled all across the land. The few Dragons that remained went into hiding, biding their time and increasing their numbers. The magical nature of the dragons changed them through the generations, creating many varieties (colors) of Dragons.
As time passed, the individual races developed distinct societies. The elves withdrew to the mountains and forests of the east and dabbled in the magic powers that the dragons had once used to rip the planet apart. The elves also learned fine arts, studying painting, crafts, and other things. The thepa established a system of honor to guide them in their lives. Governments were established through strict one-on-one combat. The thepa believed that to dishonor their name and society was worse than death. The kanus, thriving in the cooler northern lands, learned a system of balance and neutrality in order to better govern their people. The humans honed their smithing skills, creating new, better weapons and armor. The humans also began to establish an economic system in their lands. The human economic empire grew, money became more important to humans than most any other thing. They adorned themselves in rare metals, massed wealth, but still they sought more. The greed of man brought about a horrible decline in morals and values. Soon the mighty human empire began to collapse in on itself as people used and abused the economic system. It is during this time that the world was moving toward the Great War. A time when even the most corrupted human would have to look past his greed, and work for the common good of the entire race.
