The kanus society is divided into three
provinces located in the northern sector of the mainland.
Bat`leth Province :
The largest province is the Bat`leth province. Bat`leth
Province is home to those that follow the teachings of Tri`osta and his priests. There are
many great chruches scattered across the area, and there are many church-funded
universities dedicated to higher learning. Though peaceful by nature, the warriors of the
Bat`leth province are fearless, well-trained, and very adept in the art of warfare. Almost
75% of all Bat`leth males are in the military. Most kanus living in this provice are
lawful good in alignment. Player characters from this province may, however, be of any
alignment. PCs from this province may choose any class. The cleric is the most common,
balancing the teachings of Tri`osta with warrior training, but other classes are possible.
Dar`rak Province :
The second largest province, Dar`rak, is home to the
majority of the kanus magicians. The magician guilds are separated into specific orders.
Dar`rak is also home to the Order of Ja`kar, an elite clan of kanus warriors who dedicate
their lives to the ancient kanus warrior, Ja`kar. It is every Dar`rak kanus's dream to be
accepted into an order of magic, or the Order of Ja`kar. They dedicate their entire life
to acceptance, then if accepted, to service of their order.
The citizens of Dar`rak Province are dedicated to the
worship of the great Golden Dragon, Panndallor. Panndallor was noted for his exceptional
bravery in the Great War and gained the respect of the once faithless Dar`rak society.
A candidate for the order of Ja`kar must pledge its life
to the ways of Ja`kar at the youthful age of 8. It is at this time that the young kanus
student begins his or her training. If the warrior proves to be worthy, he will be
accepted into the Initiate Circle at age 18. Once in the Circle, the warrior must face
several challenges. The final challenge is a meeting with Panndallor in his lair. The
young warrior must prove his worth and dedication to the Dragon. Panndallor uses detect
lie spells to find any hint of deception in the warrior. Once the warrior has proven his
dedication to the order, the dragon will test the combat skills of the Circle member. The
test is not meant to kill the warrior, only to determine his or her combat readiness in
the face of danger. If the warrior fails a fear check at any time he fails the test and
must train for at least 5 years before attempting the trial again. Those that pass are
given a small golden gem, proof of their passing Panndallor's test. This gem is later
placed into a sword, or other weapon, and sometimes it is placed into an amulet. The
warrior is now a full member of the order.
A PC from this Province will most likely either choose to
be a mage, specialist mage, or a warrior. Any good alignment is a necessity for those of
the Order, but a mage may be of any alignment.
Kal`nar Province :
The citizens of Kal`nar Province, the smallest of the
three Provinces, are mostly common laborers. The Province is also home to most of the
kanus that did not live up to the exacting standards of the Order of Ja`kar and were
banished from Dar`rak. Though banished, these former Candidates and Circle members are not
looked upon as failures. Banishment is merely an accepted consequence for not living up to
the standards of Panndallor.
There are mixed religions through out Kal`nar Province.
Nearly all those banished from the Order of Ja`kar continue to follow the teachings of
Panndallor. Others follow the ways of Tri`osta. Some very small groups worship other
things, while some have no true faith in anything.
Citizens of this province are generally lower class and
know the hardships of a worker's life.
